Dear Friends and Colleagues,
The MSU College of Veterinary Medicine is known for innovative programs in education, clinical service, and biomedical research. Our success is founded on the unequivocal commitment of our faculty and staff members to the improvement of animal and human health. That commitment inspires our students and clients who, in turn, encourage us all to become even better at what we do. I am pleased to report that 32 percent of our CVM faculty and staff have shown their confidence in the college by giving back to the programs for which they work. They, and other members of the MSU community, have contributed more than $1.6 million to the college. This support ensures that the College of Veterinary Medicine will continue to help MSU become the United States’ leading land-grant research university of the 21st century. The support of faculty and staff in the college and university is essential to CVM’s mission of generating groundbreaking ideas and research while also graduating bright, caring practitioners. We ask you to join us in making a gift commitment as a demonstration of your support. Thank you for your consideration. Chris M. Brown, Dean Making your gift to the All University Campaign? In an effort to simplify your involvement in the All U Campaign, All-U packets will be mailed to your preferred address the week of March 16th. Please find several tools provided below to make this process quick, easy and worthwhile. Recommended funds. Although you can designate any program or fund of your choice, we have listed two funds within CVM that are in great need of support. Please consider giving to the following areas: The Center for Comparative Oncology Building Fund (A67047) Cancer will affect approximately 40% of companion animals at some stage in their lives. Established to meet the demand for animal cancer care within Michigan, the center is expected to generate 2,000 cases per year for the VTH, delivering wonderful teaching and research opportunities. Student Support (A60004) The average debt load at graduation for the Class of 2004 was $83,200. That figure increases for each subsequent class due to rising tuition forced by cuts to state funding. Support of student scholarships and awards assures that qualified individuals continue to receive financial support throughout their tenure at the college. Your gift to MSU qualifies as a charitable gift deduction on your federal income tax return. You may also qualify for a Michigan tax credit. Check with your financial advisor concerning the details of your personal tax situation. How can I do more? Join a MSU donor society. Consider joining one of the eight MSU donor societies or the special 1855 Club. Open only to current and retired MSU faculty and staff, the 1855 Club recognizes donors who pledge an annual gift $1,000 for 5 years. That works out to only $84 a month. Other popular donor societies include the President's Club recognizing gifts & pledges of $10,000 - $24,999 and the Beaumont Tower Society recognizing gifts & pledges of $25,000 - $49,999. For additional information on these or other donor societies, please contact Susan Halloran, CVM director of development, at 517-353-4937 or hallor17@cvm.msu.edu. Make a planned gift. Gifts through bequests, trusts or gift annuities are all wonderful opportunities to support CVM. Making any size planned gift will qualify you for recognition in the Linda E. Landon Legacy Society. To discuss how to document a planned gift, or to request sample language to insert in your will, please contact Susan Halloran, CVM director of development, at 517-353-4937 or hallor17@cvm.msu.edu. Leave a legacy. Leave your mark at CVM by creating an endowment with a minimum of $30,000. You choose the designation, and because only interest income may be spent, the endowment lives on in perpetuity. Cash or cash equivalent gifts, such as stocks and bonds, or planned gifts may be used to fund an endowment.
