What is The Essential Edge Fund?
The Essential Edge is a fund that provides annual support for the evolving needs of a large university, needs that may otherwise go unmet. This fund allows alumni to assist in preserving the high quality of an MSU education for future generations of Spartans, while also increasing the value of their own degree. This campaign typically runs April through September.
How does the Essential Edge help students?
Gifts to the Essential Edge may go toward the Alumni Distinguished Scholarship Fund, which selects from the top 10% of all MSU freshman applicants (GPA, class rank, test scores) to compete for 10 four year 'full ride' scholarships and 15 four year 'tuition only' scholarships. The fund also supports the Presidential Awards for Outstanding Community Service, which recognizes faculty and staff for extraordinary and sustained community achievements that extend beyond the scope of their designated University responsibilities. Finally, it helps fund The President's Discretionary Fund, which provides President LouAnna Simon with discretionary monies to support the areas of greatest need on MSU's campus. The Essential Edge helps assure that MSU will have the resources to respond to opportunities and needs as they arise.
